Banquet pour Jacques Halbert

Originally from the region of François Rabelais, Jacques Halbert is the worthy heir to the illustrious philosopher, whose spirit he conveys through his palette, and whose echo returns to us through his gargantuan laughter.

For nearly thirty years, the artist has pursued an original and somewhat frugal artistic practice. His initial interest in the Fluxus and Dada movements intertwines and shifts with the remarkable unfolding of his life, extending into a personal field that engages more broadly with the history of art.

In the early 1970s, he began his studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Bourges. There begins the career of this painter whose character, to quote Roland Duclos, is “as smooth and full-bodied as a Chinon wine,” and whose passionate subject relates to his particular taste an ordinary yet unusual subject : the cherry, cherries.

A nearly obsessive theme in his work, it is still present today.
