Magnifik Gallery
New-York City, USA
1999-2001
In 1999, upon returning to New York, Jacques Halbert founded Magnifik Gallery in Williamsburg, at a time when the neighborhood was beginning to establish itself as one of the leading centers of emerging artistic practice. Before its transformation into an international cultural destination, Williamsburg witnessed the rise of numerous independent artist-led initiatives that developed new exhibition models outside established circuits.
From 1999 to 2001, Magnifik Gallery hosted numerous exhibitions and played an active role in the development of this alternative scene. The gallery presented the work of American and international artists in a spirit of openness and experimentation.
Among its notable exhibitions was Suffragettes, which brought together more than twenty women artists. Through this project, the gallery contributed to a broader reflection on the visibility of women's artistic practices in contemporary art and affirmed its commitment to a diverse and inclusive art scene.
