The “Après l'ordinaire” series is rooted in the media imagination of the political demonstrations and riots that have dominated the news in recent months. Using the carcasses of ordinary cars and burnt-out or overturned police cars that he takes from the press and photocopies, Massinissa Selmani presents ruins of violence that he reinterprets by associating them with incongruous elements (hunting trophies, turtles, wheels, rocks, etc.). The latter seem to create a balance with the violence they defuse, forming territories of conflict tinged with a mystical, even disquieting banality. Moreover, through the intrusion of formal geometric elements and the multiplication of viewpoints in the five variations of “Après l'ordinaire”, the artist continues his reflection on altered images and the documentation of events through drawing.
