The subtle integration of creativity into every aspect of the city’s development and transformation gradually shapes the way Nantes is perceived. In a sense, it takes real boldness on the part of Semitan to entrust functional elements of its operations to artists rather than to decorators or marketing specialists.

The artists involved took great pleasure in embracing the idea of a utopian city, one in which everything might be delightful—including taking the e-Busway during rush hour. We are not there yet, but year after year we strive, through art, to move closer to that vision of a city that is always smiling.”
