Selected by Zineb Sedira, Massinissa Selmani reflects on interconnected themes such as territoriality and movement, evoking contemplation rather than straightforward narrative in his presentation at Frieze London 2024. His pieces challenge the viewer’s gaze, presenting compositions that are both familiar and enigmatic, inviting reinterpretation with each viewing. Selmani’s works pose questions because they do not present themselves in an explicitly narrative way. Instead, they are assemblages: a recomposed whole of strange and incongruous situations, delivering an ambiguous message.
